How we help

We act for politicians, senior officials, diplomats, judges, senior officers and their families, in the UK and overseas.

01Prepared applications

Source of wealth and source of funds documented thoroughly before a lender asks.

02The right lenders

Lenders differ in their approach to politically exposed clients. We approach those equipped to deal with them.

03Family and associates

Family members and close associates face the same checks and we handle their applications with equal care.

04Confidentiality

Sensitive information is shared only where it is required and only with your consent. Where appropriate, we are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement for further peace of mind.

Typical scenarios

Illustrative examples of the situations we are asked to help with. They are not accounts of individual clients.

Scenario 01A serving politician

A member of Parliament buying a home in their constituency while retaining a London property.

We explain the enhanced checks in advance and prepare the documentation that lenders will require.
Scenario 02A family connection

The adult child of an overseas government minister buying a flat in the UK.

We document the source of the deposit and place the case with a lender experienced in such applications.
Scenario 03After leaving office

A former senior official refinancing some years after leaving their post.

We establish how each lender treats former office holders, as approaches differ.

Frequently
asked questions

What is a politically exposed person?

Someone entrusted with a prominent public function, such as a senior politician, official, judge or military officer. Family members and known close associates are treated in the same way.

Why are additional checks required?

Anti-money-laundering regulations require firms to apply enhanced due diligence to politically exposed persons. It is a legal obligation and does not imply any wrongdoing.

Is it harder to obtain a mortgage?

It can take longer and some lenders are more cautious, but being politically exposed is not in itself a reason for a lender to decline.

What information will be needed?

Usually evidence of the source of your wealth and of the funds used for the transaction, in addition to the normal documents.

Does the status end when I leave office?

Enhanced checks generally continue for at least twelve months after leaving office and firms may apply them for longer depending on their assessment of risk.

Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?

Yes. Where appropriate, we are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement for further peace of mind.
